Beginner Surfers Must Know This Technique
Duck diving is indeed difficult for beginner surfers, but
here we learn the basics of this technique. Duck Dive has the same pattern as
the process when you swim. Dive before it hits the waves and swoop under the
foamy waves, then come to the surface when the waves pass. It's easy, right? If
the theory will be drawn easily. In fact, duck diving is quite complicated
especially for beginner surfers. But with faith and practice it will become
easier and will feel more natural.
The following basic duck dive techniques that you must know:
1. Paddle hard against the breaking waves breaking, this
will give you extra momentum to swoop down the waves.
2. Real diving is all about time. Make sure you don't dive
too early and get caught by the waves when you come to the surface, or dive
late and you are dragged by the waves. This requires practice to master the
right time.
3. About one or two meters before the waves come, place your
hands under your shoulders (about 2 feet from the nose of the board) and press
down on your board and sink the front of your board into the water. Shift your
weight slightly forward to help this movement.
4. Place one of your knees (which is more comfortable for
you) on the deck of the board to push the tail into the water after dipping the
nose of the board with your hands. You can use your feet after pushing with
your knees to get deeper down the waves. Use your other legs to balance this
maneuver.
5. When the waves have passed over your head, the waves will
bring your body back and let the nose of the board rise to the surface slowly.
The tail will automatically stay submerged as the pressure of the waves fall on
it.
6. Your surfboard's natural buoyancy will make you come back
to the surface in seconds, so try this maneuver with a little strength and
speed.
7. You can practice Duck dive on flat or small waves to
start and help you improve and master this duck dive technique.
Now that's some basic techniques of duck dive. Duck dive is usually used when surfing with short boards. One
thing you need to know is that duck diving will be a little more difficult for
beginner surfers because usually the board for beginners is deliberately formed
to be lighter.
