Maybe the name of Sorake Beach is not very familiar. But for lovers of surfing sports, the name of this beach is clearly famous. The reason, this beautiful beach has big waves and high, very fitting to be a place to surf. Sorake Beach is located on Nias Island, facing directly from the Indonesian Ocean. So this beach has a good wave character, even the height can reach 15 meters in certain months, for example from April to September. Even more challenging when the full moon arrives.

The waves can roll intact to the shore, and have 11 waves before breaking. The waves also have five different levels, so surfers can act in a variety of styles. In addition, the waves at Sorake Beach always appear without any time lag, so it is very pleasant for surfers. 

Saroke Beach is a paradise for surfers and is located at the mouth of Lagundri Bay. In peak season, this beach is visited by surfers from all corners of the world who come to ride these high waves and enjoy the long white sandy beaches. High waves and rolls on this beach have been touted the second most perfect wave after Hawaii. This may no doubt be caused by wave heights reaching up to 15 meters, and five levels of waves that are difficult to find on other beaches. The popularity of the waves and the charming surrounding scenery have caused this beach to become a famous destination throughout the world. Several international surfing competitions have been held here. Along the coast are also home-stays ready to accommodate visitors who want to spend more time at Saroke.

Because of the good quality of the waves on Sorake Beach, this beach was used as a location for world-class surfing championships, such as the South Nias Open Surfing Contest and Nias Pro, which was participated by participants from various countries. Although this beach is like a paradise for professional surfers, it doesn't mean that beginners can't enjoy the waves on the Sorake Beach.If we are not professional surfers but interested in trying and learning, we can ask local residents to teach them. They will explain the types of waves on Sorake Beach, while also being able to teach us basic surfing techniques.

The best time to learn for beginners is the morning. Because the waves are not so high, so there is no need to pedal or push your body too hard into the middle of the sea. If you are tired of wading through the waves, you can rest on the beach while watching the action of the surfers. You can even stay overnight at various lodgings with the concept of a surf camp, which mushroom along the beach.
To reach this beach, we have to take the air route from Medan Polonia Airport to Binaka Airport on Gunungsitoli. The trip takes about an hour. Next, continue the journey by land to get to the Sorake Beach in Teluk Dalam.
